Born and raised in New Zealand, I’ve also lived in the UK and the US. I’ve been working in the tourism industry in some form or another since I was 17, covering everything from budget travellers inbound to New Zealand to teaching vocational tourism courses, and from luxury retreats to space travel.
I worked for Virgin Limited Edition, a collection of luxury retreats privately owned by Richard Branson, at their London HQ as Sales & Reservations Manager from 2000 to 2006. After that I moved to Virgin Galactic where I spent the next 9’ish years; first as Head of Astronaut Sales in London, then as Head of Tourism & Hospitality Development near Spaceport America in New Mexico, USA.
From 2006 to 2015 I travelled a lot for work; racing around the world promoting Virgin Galactic, sometimes clocking up to 4 long haul flights in a week and visiting every continent except Antarctica (number one on my bucket list by the way!). I loved the work, but I missed out on time with family and friends, so I decided to take a career break to make-up for that and to travel. I wanted to slowly explore some places I’d only ever glimpsed out a plane window, yet had always wondered what the life and landscape was like down on the ground. This blog covers those wanderings and in time I plan to add some more.
